How do I recover deleted messages in Facebook?
Recovering deleted messages in Facebook involves two main steps: checking the archive and downloading your Facebook data. Here's how you can do it:
Step 1: Check the Archive
- Open the Messenger App: Start by opening the Facebook Messenger app on your device.
- Access the Menu: Tap the menu icon in the top left corner.
- Select Archive: Choose the "Archive" option from the menu.
- Find the Conversation: Scroll through the archived conversations to find the one you want to recover.
- Unarchive: If you find the conversation, swipe it to the left and tap "Unarchive" to move it back to your inbox.
Step 2: Download Facebook Data
If the conversation is not in the archive, you can try downloading your Facebook data:
- Visit Facebook.com: Open a web browser and go to Facebook.com. Log in if you're not already.
- Access Settings: Click the menu icon in the top right corner and select "Settings."
- Download Profile Information: Scroll down and click "Download Profile Information."
- Select Messages: Deselect all categories and then select only "Messages."
- Choose Date Range: If you know when the message was sent, select a specific date range; otherwise, choose "All of my Data."
- Media Quality: Set media quality to "Low" unless you need photos or videos, in which case set it to "High."
- Create File: Tap "Create File" to request your data. Wait for the file to be prepared.
- Download and Unzip: Once ready, download the file and unzip it. You can then browse through the folders to find records of your message history.
Note: While you can recover and view deleted messages by downloading your data, they cannot be restored to the Messenger app like archived messages can.
