How did Man Bai, Jahangir's wife die?
Man Bai, also known as Shah Begum, was the first wife and chief consort of Prince Salim, later Emperor Jahangir. She died by consuming an overdose of opium on May 5, 1605, although some sources incorrectly state the date as May 16, 1604135. Her death was a result of her inability to tolerate the misconduct of her son Khusrau and her brother Madho Singh towards Jahangir. Despite her efforts to counsel Khusrau to be loyal to his father, he refused, leading to her despair and decision to end her life35. Jahangir was deeply affected by her death and went into mourning, abstaining from food and drink for four days3.
